Playing Within Limits at Charmius
Gambling is entertainment paid for with money that has no other task. We provide controls on every account from the first day, and we ask each player to use them before a problem appears and not after. Players must be 18 or over.
Decide the amount before the first deposit
A budget works when it is set in advance and written as a figure. A simple rule is to name the weekly amount that can be lost without effect on rent, bills, savings or debts, and to set that amount as a deposit limit. A single deposit may reach AUD 3,000, but that is a technical ceiling and not a recommendation. A bonus does not change the budget: x40 wagering on a bonus of AUD 500 means AUD 20,000 of bets, and stakes of that scale should be weighed against the amount you can afford to lose.
The controls on your account
| Control | What it does | Where to set it |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit limit | Caps deposits per day, week or month | Profile, Limits |
| Loss limit | Caps losses per day, week or month | Profile, Limits |
| Cooling-off period | 24-hour pause: bets and deposits blocked, withdrawals open | Profile or live chat |
| Self-exclusion | Excludes the account for a period from 1 day to indefinitely | Profile |
Limits and breaks can be set at any time, including before the first deposit. During a cooling-off period withdrawals stay available, so money already won is never held back by the break.
Setting a limit in four steps
Sign in and open Profile, then Limits.
Choose deposit or loss, and choose daily, weekly or monthly.
Enter the amount in AUD.
Confirm and check the result on the same screen.
Signs that play is becoming a problem
- Stakes grow after losses in an attempt to win the money back.
- Deposits exceed the amount you decided on, or come from money meant for bills.
- Sessions are longer than planned, or begin while upset, tired or under pressure.
- Play is hidden from family, or the balance is not discussed.
- A bonus is chased to completion although the stake no longer feels comfortable.
- Withdrawals are cancelled so that the money can be played again.
One sign is enough to take a break. The cooling-off period exists for exactly this moment.
A session routine
Before you start, check the limit and the amount you have decided to play with.
Fix a stopping time and a stopping amount, and write both down.
Use only real money you can afford to lose; do not borrow to play.
When the stop amount or the stop time is reached, leave the lobby. Do not make one more deposit.
After the session, open Cashbox, Operations History and read the totals.
Bonuses and the pressure to continue
A bonus attaches a task to your play: wagering at x40, a maximum bet of AUD 7.50 and a validity of 7 days. These conditions can create a feeling that play must go on until the requirement is met. It does not have to. A withdrawal request made before wagering is complete cancels the bonus and its winnings while the real money balance is paid out. If a bonus begins to dictate the length of a session, stop and withdraw.
Thursday cashback and the VIP levels reward volume of play, with points earned per AUD wagered. A higher level is never a reason to stake more than planned. Lifetime points do not expire, so a break costs nothing on that track.
What a weekly limit adds up to
The figures are arithmetic only and are not a recommendation.
| Weekly deposit | Per month of 4 weeks | Per year of 52 weeks |
|---|---|---|
| AUD 50 | AUD 200 | AUD 2,600 |
| AUD 100 | AUD 400 | AUD 5,200 |
| AUD 250 | AUD 1,000 | AUD 13,000 |
Compare the yearly figure with other items of your budget, and lower the limit if it competes with them. Every deposit is recorded under Cashbox, Operations History, so the real total is easy to check.
Matching the concern to the control
| What you notice | Step to take | Control |
|---|---|---|
| Deposits are creeping up | Fix an amount and cap it | Deposit limit |
| One bad run is hard to accept | Cap the loss you can bear | Loss limit |
| You want to stop for a day | Pause the account | Cooling-off period |
| You want longer distance from play | Exclude the account | Self-exclusion |
| You cannot stop, or feel distressed | Speak to a person | Free helplines |
Questions to ask before each session
- Is this money needed for something else this month?
- Am I playing to win back a loss?
- Do I feel calm, or am I playing to change how I feel?
- Have I already reached today’s limit?
If an answer is troubling, close the session. If the same answer returns, use a control from the table and call one of the services listed in this document.
Supporting someone else
If a family member or friend appears to be affected, speak privately and without blame, offer to go through the figures together and suggest the free services named here. Calls to Gambling Help Online are free and confidential, and relatives may use the service as well as players. A person who wants to stop can be helped to set limits and to register with BetStop.
Barriers outside the account
Limits inside the account work best when other barriers support them. Blocking software such as Gamban restricts gambling sites on a device. Payment channels can also be separated: a card used for living costs should not be the card used for deposits, and every payment method on the account must in any case be in your own name.
Independent help in Australia
| Service | How to reach it | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Gambling Help Online | Telephone 1800 858 858; online chat and email | Free and confidential, 24 hours |
| Lifeline | Telephone 13 11 14 | 24 hours, every day |
| BetStop | National self-exclusion register run by the Australian Government | Online registration |
BetStop blocks a person from licensed Australian online and phone gambling providers. It does not replace the self-exclusion on your Charmius account, so use both if you decide to stop. Further organisations that offer remote support include Gambling Therapy and Gamblers Anonymous.
Time as well as money
A budget in AUD controls what is lost; a time limit controls how long attention is given to play. Choose a session length before you start, set an alarm, and treat the alarm as final.
Minors in the household
We do not admit anyone under 18. Where children use the same devices, keep passwords private, log out after every session and install blocking software.
